In the summer of 2021, Dom Tvorchestva Peredelkino, together with the Union of Composers of Russia, held a competition for the creation of musical pieces titled “Lectures on Russian Literature.” The name is a reference to Vladimir Nabokov’s famous lectures. The participants of the competition were invited to reflect on the literature written in Peredelkino and tell about their impressions in the language of contemporary music. The winners of the competition spent a week at Dom Tvorchestva Peredelkino. There, they realized the ideas, shared experiences and conducted a number of open rehearsals with Contemporary Music Company. The album Reflection is a project of the Association of Young Performing Musicians of the Russian Musical Union. The idea of the album lies in its very title. The featured works – Piano Quintet by Mieczysław Weinberg and Overture on Hebrew Themes by Sergei Prokofiev – are interpreted by the performers as a reflection in the music of the first half of the twentieth century, a period of political turmoil and horrors of war.
